The Book-a-day Challenge! – 8. It’s a mystery!


Today’s reading challenge is exactly what it says on the tin – a mystery! Now…I’m unsure of how to interpret this one. Is this a mystery for the reader of the post? i.e. can I simply write about whatever book I want? I’m interpreting this as, literally, my favourite mystery…

8. It’s a mystery!


How could I pick anything other than this Wilkie Collins’ classic for my December mystery? Not only is this psychological tale of betrayal and insanity widely considered to be one of the first true ‘mystery’ novels, it is also, simply, gripping. Much like his contemporary Dickens, Collins’ storytelling is flawless, keeping even modern readers on their toes. Marian Halcombe, half-sister to the fragile, persecuted young Laura Fairlie, is also one of Victorian literature’s greatest heroines. Go girl!
