It is with great delight that I turned over the papers last week to discover that Canadian author Alice Munro has become the 13th woman in history to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. Well, jolly good I say.
Although the frequency with which women are bestowed with this prestigious prize is happily increasing (with Herta Müller winning as recently as 2009), we women still have a long way to go to match our male companions. Munro’s humble reaction to her win holds an important lesson for all of us. And what an elegant lady to boot.
